Humanism 1
Abstract expressionist painting by R Middleton

What's immediately noticeable about Humanissome 1 [a 157.5cm by 137cm (62x54 inches) abstract expressionist painting of oil, acrylic, and pencil] is that it's base surface is not primed white. The warm tones and fuzzy texture of the canvas itself shows in the painting's negative spaces. While I paint only abstract expressionism as a(n un)disciplined questioning of "one objective reality," I maintain variety in my work by constantly altering the physical process. Currently I make abstract pencil drawings for cleanliness and portability. The mind-play is the same, no matter the materials or size.
